The Dubai Road Naming Committee has introduced a new initiative allowing residents and citizens to contribute to naming streets and roads across the city.
The “Street Designation Proposal” platform, supervised by Dubai Municipality, aims to engage the public in this process.
Dawoud Al Hajri, Director-General of Dubai Municipality and Chairman of the Dubai Road Naming Committee, stated that the platform is part of efforts to promote community participation in road naming.
The initiative aligns with the committee’s objectives to preserve heritage, promote civilization, and highlight Dubai’s achievements.
The digital platform allows the public to suggest names based on specific classifications, including:
- Arabic and Islamic design and architecture
- Art, culture, and Arabic poetry
- Natural phenomena and local flora and fauna
- Environmental sustainability
- Maritime themes
- Historical and archaeological references
- Local traditions and professions
- Modern technology and inventions
Al Hajri emphasized that the naming process will reflect Dubai’s identity and the interrelation between its past, present, and future.
The committee has already completed a trial phase in the Al Khawaneej 2 area, using names inspired by local trees and plants such as Ghaf, Sidr, and Reehan for street names.
The Dubai Road Naming Committee, established by Executive Council Resolution No. 35 of 2021, is led by the Director-General of Dubai Municipality and includes representatives from various cultural and governmental bodies.
Residents and citizens can submit their proposals through the platform.
