Hilarious and Family-Friendly: “The Ice Hole” is Back at Theatre by QE2.
Back by popular demand, “The Ice Hole – A Cardboard Comedy” is set to entertain Dubai once again after a series of sold-out performances. This unique theatrical experience, described as a “cardboard comedy,” blends imaginative storytelling with the quirky use of handcrafted cardboard props. Theatre fans are in for a treat with this award-winning show, suitable for audiences of all ages and languages!
The plot follows a man in a three-piece suit fishing in the vast plains of the Great North. An unexpected encounter with a mermaid changes his life forever, leading him on a surreal and hilarious adventure – all narrated using over 400 handmade cardboard props!
Originally created by the renowned French comedians Pierre Guillois and Olivier Martin-Salvan, this production earned the prestigious 2022 Moliere Award and gained international acclaim at the 2023 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. It now comes to life in Dubai, starring local talents Sadiq Saboowala and Patrick Albrecht, two-time winners of the Short+Sweet Dubai Theatre Festival.
Following the incredible success of its May and July performances at Theatre by QE2, “The Ice Hole – A Cardboard Comedy” returns for more dates in October and November. Audiences are invited to witness the comic genius of this one-of-a-kind show, as Patrick and Sadiq deliver outstanding performances, bringing humor and cardboard to life on stage.
Australian playwright and co-producer Alex Broun praised the show, calling it “the best theatre I’ve seen in the UAE.” He added, “The creativity, comic timing, and skill make it a world-class production. It’s rare to see audiences break into spontaneous applause, but it happens frequently during The Ice Hole. The standing ovation at the end is proof of how brilliant this production truly is.”
